A SOCK AND A PAINT CAN

Every single day, in my life, is different.

Nothing stays the same.

This day I hate to paint.

So I thought I'd point out a couple of positive things.

I saw on a How To Video on painting that you should wear little white socks when you paint.

This way no shoes get harmed during the painting process.

I liked that idea.  If you step in paint, you'll feel it and can whip that sock off before you walk across your wool rug.

See?
I did not walk on my rug

But I don't like to paint walls, this day.  I hate cutting.  Dipping the brush in the paint.  Wiping it off.  All of it.  Isn't this weird?  You all love doing this stuff.  I have proof.  I follow something like 107 blogs.  You all, 'cept for that wild woman down south, love to paint.  Or at least that's the impression you've given me.  WHAT AM I DOING HERE?

STARTIN' TO FEEL LIKE THIS SONG:
"One of these things is not like the other, which one is not the same..."

I changed my mind about yellow, too.  I don't like yellow.  I WAS enamored with yellow the other day.  Then I did this to the closet.
And I didn't like it.

So, since I don't like to paint, I HAVE to paint this closet AGAIN.  And, if you read my last post, well, let's just say, I'm in the throws this week.

So, while EC took the boys to karate yesterday I ran, literally, and got my cutting brush, my primer, the roller, everything and in an hour, while on the phone with one of my best friends, rolled the tiny room white!  It's primed right now.  Completely.  Utterly.  White.  I haven't a clue what color I'm going to paint in there.  But it's not Sun Yellow. Can you believe what a complete decorating nincompoop (that's actually a word.  it didn't come up in spell check?) I am?  Don't answer.  Be nice.  I'm in the throws, OK?

I was trying to do this space around a piece of fabric that I have loved for 20 some years (gross exaggeration).  I was re-doing this entire entry way based on it.  And yellow is not my life.

Good news, though.  I realized something about myself.  Go with what you love.  Don't be radical.  Do what you love and the rest will set you free!  It did.

After I had that primer on the walls.  I felt calm.  Ok, it's white.  But I was all calm and happy.  And I'm in the throws!  Calm doesn't usually happen in the throws.  Well, you know it doesn't.  But action does.  That's how this all happened.  Another lesson:  Got work to do?  Do it while in the throws!  I've gotten so much done that I've decided to do all my re-doings during my time (if you will).

So I came up with other ideas and I'm in love.  Does this happen to us?  When we start, you know, decorating/changing up our dwelling place?

On a happy note:  This kind of paint I love.

Gotta go do the entry way now.  Somebody pray!

  1. I personally love yellow!
But maybe you needed a color that didn't require sunglasses? ;)
I had to laugh (and smile) at the pictures painted by your precious ones.
Your 9 year old made your skin yellow- *giggle, snort*
    Sorry.
    Are you still my friend?

I am praying that you pick the right color for the foyer and that you have enough socks to keep up with all your painting!
    Blessings to you!

  2. So, whites a color- right?

It is calm, how about an off white. Well, you didn't ask. Same as you... no, painting is not my favorite thing to do. I'll do it, but don't look to close. I'm a sloppy painter.

I can't wait to see this mud room.

  3. According to the psychology of color, yellow is an anxiety producing color and it usually makes people happy at first but then makes them want to leave. That is supposedly why they use it in fast food restaurants. Maybe not the best choice for your entry. (Unless those toxic people are coming). What other colors are in this fabric?
On the loving painting topic, I do admit that I love to paint. Spray paint, wall paint, craft paint, fabric paint and even finger paint. I love the process and the finished product. I try to paint when everyone else is out of the house and I can listen to great music really loud. I can't wait to see your new color choice.

  4. Well, lets look at the good side, it was only a small area that you had to redo. I too am not a yellow person, I tried a whole room, yes my mistake was on a much larger plain. So, I wish you luck for your next painting project. Maybe after such a tough week you can give yourself a pat on the back and do something you love to do, then, later go back to the painting. Anyway have a great weekend.

  5. Hey girl. First of all, the pictures were so sweet that your boys painted. And, you looked beautiful in that last picture.

Second of all, when I painted my DR and kitchen, I bought a couple of different trial colors to make sure which one I liked. Remember my guest bathroom mishap? I had painted the entire bathroom and hated it. I redid it as quickly as I could. Wasted time and wasted money...Hey that's close to the song...Wasted Days and Wasted Nights...maybe by Freddie Fender. Do you even have a clue what I am talking about?

Good luck on all your painting. Just remember how much you will love your changes once they are all done.

    Blessings to you girl.

  6. So laughing..that yellow shocked my "still waking up eyes" wide open! We all blow it with color choices at times. Mine was a aqua/blue wall. Was Terrible in bright southern exposure.

I am with you. I cannot stand to paint walls! I have no,none, nada patience for walls..ok I admit it- I am also the worlds messiest painter.

    LOVE love your 9yo portrait!
    Cheers, love n hugs!

  7. Yellow is a nice soothing color - just not in the SCHOOL BUS YELLOW hue of it! Wow, that little closet was bright!

Seriously, I can't count how many times I've painted an area, and then repainted it, and then painted it back to the color I originally painted over. I think it's more common than one would think. Aren't we women funny little creatures?

Your little kiddos are darling. Budding artists for sure.

  8. Thank you for the kind words about the slipcover. I am going to take some of the seam out tonight and then try a fresh start tomorrow.
